        The Investors appreciate an openness and active support of Obninsk administration. The prices on accommodation of manufacture in Obninsk are lower on the order, than in Moscow or near Moscow. To the present time the city's investment portfolio is estimated in 60 million dollars. From the mostly enterprises the investment contracts providing construction of new industrial cases and office buildings are made. The realization of the projects at the investors is at a various stage. Most actively civil work are conducted by the company "Kraftway Inc.", the manufacturer of the electronic equipment. There are factory's buildings in a stage of end, the internal furnish of the rooms and equipment will begin in a near future. The "Ventall" factory, making building system from light metal designs, has begun construction of access roads and erection of a buildings' zero cycle. The Serbian company "Hemofarm Concern", being the manufacturer of pharmaceutical preparations, was at present determined with a choice of the civil work contractor. The construction of a factory in Obninsk will be conducted by "Putavi", the company from Serbia, positively recommending itself at construction of various objects in Russia. By the subcontractors Russian companies, including Obninsk's ones will act. The construction of Czech Computing and Processing Center "Home Credit and Finance Bank" will begin at the end of 2004.

      The history of the State Research Center of Russia, Obninsk Research and Production Enterprise "Technology" begins from 1959 when the foundation of the experimental glass factory for the development and production of home aircraft glazing was laid in the suburbs of a young town Obninsk which is 100 km away from Moscow. At the same time the first laboratories were organized. Specialists of all kinds, scientists, masters, workers came to the new enterprise.

     In 1963 the factory was reorganized into the branch of the Research Institute of Technical Glass. It was then that investigations on ceramics began. Soon one more enterprise, the branch of the All-Union Institute of Aircraft Materials was established next to the glass factory. In 1978 Research and Production Enterprise "Technology" was organized on the basis of two branches.

     June 5, 1994 Obninsk Research and Production Enterprise "Technology" received the status of the State Research Center of Russian Federation. Nowadays the Center includes the Technological Institute of Non-Metallic Structures and Production Base. The Institute has the laboratories involved in the development of materials and technologies, design departments, test and development benches and complexes.

     The Institute is engaged in research on:

  • optical and structural colored and colorless glass and glass ceramics

  • structural and functional ceramics

  • polymeric composite material structures and methods of their manufacturing

  • polymeric composite materials, production procedures and techniques (honeycomb materials, heat-insulating materials)

  • electro insulating polymeric materials (compounds, dielectric and antifriction materials, binders, etc.)

     The Center has made great progress in its investigations and practical implementation of the results in aerospace, defense, metallurgy, electro technical and automotive industries, in carriage - and ship-building, medicine, consumer goods production. The Center, its scientists and specialists were often awarded government prizes and bonuses for the development and testing of components. Among them are Lenin and State Prizes, the USSR Government Prizes, Russian Federation Government Prizes. 60 doctors and candidates of sciences work at the Center. Under their supervision 700 new materials, processes and components for the new equipment have been developed. The high level of developments and staff is sustained by over 2000 inventions.

     The experts of the Center solve the problems in a complex way using the developments of structures and units for most home aircrafts: TU-95, TU-128, TU-22M, TU-154, TU-200, TU-204, TU-334, IL-96-300, IL-96M, IL-114, JAK-42, BE-40, BE-200, AN-28, AN-32, AN-38, IL-86, IL-96, IL-114, CU-17, CU-26, CU-29, CU-31, CU-33, S-37, MIG-27, MIG-31, for helicopters MI-8, MI-26, MI-38, missile system S-300, launching vehicles PROTON-M and ROKOT, space vehicles MARS, KUPON, SPEKTR-R.

     The products of the Center were used in Russian space shuttle BURAN. Out of 100 tons of the total shuttle weight 10 tons of high-tech products are made by the Center: super light heat-insulating tiles for casing, high-strength heat and radiation resistant cockpit windshields, payload bay flaps from polymeric composite materials, high-temperature non-metallic honeycomb cores, nap sealants, etc.

     The Center participates in solving the most important problems within the framework of a number of scientific and technical programmes and projects:

  • In the context of the Programme of Fundamental and Applied Research and Developments under the supervision of Russian Federation Ministry of Science and Technologies, the Programme National Technological Base and the Programme of the Defence Industry Reorganization and Conversion the Center is working on the widening of the use of the materials and technologies for aviation, metallurgy, ceramic, electronic, semiconductor and jewellery industries, for medical equipment, railway transport, sport, household appliances, etc.

  • Scientific principles and methods of manufacturing and certification for the whole class of complex-shaped highly loaded stiffened integral structures from carbon-filled plastics for the aircrafts SU-33, BE-40, TU-34, TU-334 have been developed within the framework of the Federal Programme on the Development of Civil Aviation Equipment up to 2000. The structures of this type have improved efficiency from the viewpoint of mass-cost-load criterion and improved manufacturability resulted from the simultaneous curing of all structure components and the formation of permanent joints between them in the process of molding.

  • Composite sandwich shells with unique dimensional stability, complex theoretical contour of bearing surface and framework tubular elements forming a parabolic aerial have become the result of the Center participation in the International Program SPEKTR- RADIOASTRON on the development of large space radio telescope.

  • This work has been done by the Center in cooperation with Lavochkin Research and Production Enterprise on request of the Astrospace Center of Lebedev Institute of Physics (Russian Academy of Sciences). In September 1998 these products passed a full complex of ground tests in Research Center ESTEC (Holland) under the aegis of European Space Agency (ESA).

  • Within the framework of the international project ATLAS the precision dimensionally stable carbon filled plastic components for the transfer radiation tracker (TRT) of Large Hadron Collider LHC (CERN, Switzerland) are being developed to order of Russian Institute of High-Energy Physics.

  • As for the Federal Space Programme being realized by such leading firms as Khrunichev Missile-Space Factory and design bureau SALJUT, the Center is engaged in the production and improvement of polymeric composite material structures for the satellite launcher PROTON-M, for the advanced light launch vehicle ROKOT, and also for new satellite launchers ANGARA, which are being scheduled for production in the 21st century.

  • In the context of the Programme on the Development of Orbital Reusable Spacecrafts MAKS a series of investigations and experiments on the development of strengthened carbon filled plastic structures of integral type for bearing surfaces of the modified spacecraft has been carried out.

  • As regards the programme BANKIR the Center has developed in co-operation with Lavochkin Research and Production Enterprise a large-sized dimensionally stable composite platform for the accommodation of precision receiving and transmitting equipment for the communication satellite KUPON.

  • The Center's participation in the Branch Programme on the Development of Highly Maneuverable Aircraft of New Generation with Adaptable Swept forward Wing resulted in the development in co-operation with Sukhoi design bureau, All-Russia Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) and Central Aero hydrodynamics Institute (TSAGI) of large-sized thick wing panels from high-modulus carbon-filled plastic for the aircraft S-37 BERKUT.

     Research and production activities of the Center is based on the complex approach of solving problems: research - new materials - design - technological processes - use of materials and technologies acquired - manufacture.

        On October 12-14, 2004 in city Obninsk the XVII Scientific and Technical conference " DESIGNS And TECHNOLOGIES of RECEPTION of PRODUCTS FROM NOT METAL MATERIALS " has passed.

50 years by First in the world the atomic power station

     In reply to bombardment of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, expansion of the plans of "cold" war the leader of the Soviet Union Josiah Stalin ordered to construct first in the world the atomic power station. In 1946 the construction in 100 km on a southwest from Moscow in area of Obninsk railway station began. A building for uranium - graphite nuclear reactor, subsidiary structures, building for chemical processing of nuclear fuel were under construction here.

     Before October revolution in this place the manor of Russian noblemen the Obninski settled down. Descendants of them live in Moscow, USA and France now. The Russian manufacturer Sava Morozov, Russian artist Pete Konchalovski built the summer residences here.  School - commune for children of Spanish communists and staff of Marshal Georgi Zhukov's army in time of the Second World War were settled down here.

     The government of Russia created confidential laboratory "V", which was entrusted with the start-up of the atomic power station. Igor Kurchatov headed the scientific management above this work. The engineers and physicists B. L. Vannikov, B. G. Dubovski, E. N. Tabulevich, Y. B. Zeldovich, D. I. Blohintsev, N. A. Dollezhal, A. K. Krasin, V. A. Malih were his nearest assistants. From this moment and about last days everything, that was under construction and was created here, was by and large connected to the First in the world the atomic power station. By June 27, 1954 uranium - graphite nuclear reactor was turned on power, the turbine had turned on, the electrical generator had given the first current. First in the world the atomic power station had entered in build. The power of station made 5 Mwatt. July 24, 1956 the settlement around of First in the world the atomic power station received the status of city of Obninsk. The new, nuclear era in a history of mankind began. New, more powerful nuclear stations in Russia and in many other countries of the world were then constructed; the nuclear icebreakers and submarines were lowered on water.

     Whether the atomic power stations are necessary? In the world the usual power stations by power in tens megawatts are under construction. It is a lot of stocks of usual sources of energy in the world also them will suffice for a long time. But you see these stocks are limited also they are spent with exclusive speed. That there has not come "power starvation", the people should use energy of the sun, wind, heat of the Earth, sea waves and having flown. The large role in a history of mankind is played also with atomic engineering. The contribution of atomic engineering to general provision of energy to the consumers in the different countries of the world is various. It depends on presence or absence of other power resources in this or that country. Besides for use of atomic engineering it is necessary to have the advanced nuclear reactor technologies of construction and operation, technologies of reception and processing of nuclear fuel, burial place of the fulfilled nuclear fuel.

     The reactor by First in the world the atomic power station in Obninsk had worked 48 years and was stopped on April 30, 2002 under the decision of government of Russia. The design of an atomic power station has been very reliable. During its operation there was no gross infringement in its work. In many respects it has turned out due to extremely strict industrial and technological discipline at operation of power station.

     The explosion on Chernobyl atomic power station on 04.26.1986 has resulted in greatest accident in a history of atomic engineering. As a result of the reactor failure the total radiation of isotopes has made in 30 - 40 times more, than at explosion of a nuclear bomb in Hiroshima in 1945. Per first three days after accident, on the official data, 28 men in a condition of a strong irradiation have died, more than 200 men were gone to hospitals. The reason of Chernobyl failure became a lot of mistakes during research experiment on reactor, during which its power was reduced on 7 % from the established norm. To avoid of "a iodine hole" and long idle time of reactor, caused by "a iodine hole", the operator sharply has increased the power of the reactor, that has resulted in explosion, as the system of emergency protection was switched - off on conditions of experiment. The radioactive cloud at first moved in a northwest direction, but soon has deviated in the party of Central Europe. Increased radiations have registered in Sweden, Central Europe, Japan and USA. Only in three weeks after failure with the help 4000 tons of sand, boron, lead and clay it was possible to isolate radiating reactor radiation and to prevent radiating infection of ground. From territory in radius of 30 km from a place of failure 100 000 men were evacuated.

     The stop nuclear reactor on First in the world the atomic power station in Obninsk has put before the scientists and experts a line of new problems, which should be solved for the first time. Among them the disassembly of the strongly radiating reactor constructions and burial of the reactor. The most part of these unique works should be executed with industrial robots.

      In 2004 the 50-year's anniversary by First in the world the atomic power station will be marked. In Obninsk there will pass the international conference of International Agency of Atomic Energy, devoted to this anniversary. The general director of IAAE Ale-Baradey has nominated V. M. Murogov, former director of Obninsk Institute of Physics and Power Engineering as the technical coordinator of the conference.

   On December, 06, 2002 in a State Scientific Research Center of Russian Federation - The Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (Obninsk) after 43 years of trouble-free operation is stopped an Atomic Fast-neutron Power Station BR-10 on the sodium heat-carrier (10 Mwatt of design heat power). On the BR-10 the technologies were fulfilled which are embodied in the industrial Atomic Fast-neutron Power Stations BN-350 (350 Mwatt, Chukotka peninsula), BN-600 (600 Mwatt, coast of the Caspian sea). The reactor was stopped by the scientific - founders O.Kozachkovskiy,Y.Bargdasarov, the Chief of installation M.Nikulin, Director of The Institute of Physics and Power Engineering A.Zrodnikov. The stage of a conclusion of the reactor from operation began. (Is more detailed in the newspaper of "Obninsk" № 166 (2087) etc.)

       A reactor by First in the world the atomic power station in Obninsk is stopped on April 30, 2002. The decision on the termination of operation the reactor was accepted by government of Russia. The reactor was entered into operation of June 27, 1954 and has opened a road to use of an atomic energy in the peace purposes. It referred to as RR PA (Research Reactor for Peaceful Atom) and has worked 48 years. Its design heat power was equaled to 5 Mwatt. The works on a conclusion of Obninsk's Atomic Station from operation will be completed within 3-4 years, and then on its territory the museum will be created.
